I have been practising art and attending art workshops for several years and I feel ready to develop this interest and my artistic development.
I am an artist living in the countryside Elslack near Skipton in the Yorkshire Dales. I am fascinated by the world and the history of art with the more classical renaissance paintings and landscape and abstract paintings from more recent times. I believe in continuing to learn and develop my creative journey. I am fortunate to live in beautiful countryside, and I wish to share this beauty with others. I am always painting and submit a painting a week to an online art course through the WEA with Frank Ferrie, which I have been practising for 4 years.
I mainly work in acrylic and oils and pastel and use a multitude of different backgrounds, ie. Paper, canvas and board. My painting style is based on a semi abstract style and expressionistic style, it is what I feel that is relevant with tone and colour being equally important.
We are blessed in this country with so many incredible artists I have chosen only a few artists that I admire and that have influenced my work including Turner, George Inness, The Impressionists particularly Bonnard , David Hockney, David Blackburn, Kitaj, Howard Hodgkin, Peter Doig, and Jenny Saville. I also tend to work outside in our pleasant English landscape. Plein de air sketching
and then work on the finished painting later in my studio.
Several art workshops were attended throughout the country for over 10 years. Including workshops at Lund Studios by Katherine Holmes, and a pastel course with Sarah Bee , I have attended many art workshops at Higham Hall. I attended a recent oil workshop at Newlyn by Judy Buxton and previously Gareth Edwards. I have also attended other courses at Newlyn with excellent tutors.
I attend ongoing life drawing classes and recently I have attended portraiture and landscape in oils with Luke Thompson. I am working as an artist at present. I have regularly exhibited at the Badger In the Wall Art Gallery in Clapham. I am also a member of Craven Arts in Skipton and a member of Gargrave art group. I am planning on exhibiting at more exhibitions in the country and continuing to attend art courses. I am at present completing a year long course at an Advanced Art Development at City Lit in London.
I have been contacted by the Sky Production team to apply for Landscape Artist of the Year 2026 and I am in the middle of completing this application. I am honoured that they have contacted me to apply through my page on instagram.
